Google Android Series: Marketplace

September 5th, 2010

In this video, I continue my series of Google Android videos and discuss the Android Marketplace. The Android Marketplace is Google’s answer to the itunes App Store. Within the marketplace, you’ll find many applications both free and paid sorted by category. I had heard many stories about how much the Android Marketplace lacked applications, but I really didn’t find that to be the case. When compared to the itunes App Store, sure it has much less, but there’s plenty there for the average consumer. The controls are simple to navigate, applications include a summary and reviews, and the pricing structures seem decent. I was unable to experience the purchasing process since the review unit I have does not allow one to purchase apps, but downloading free apps was a breeze. Every download occurs in the background and notifies you (via the wonderful Android notification system) when it’s complete. I’ve downloaded quite a few apps, and I plan to try many more using the Google Android Marketplace. Enjoy!

T-Mobile G1 (HTC) / Google Android – Exclusive Smart Phone Demo (lx808.tv)

August 26th, 2010

The T-Mobile G1 (previously known as the HTC Dream) is an Internet-enabled smartphone designed by High Tech Computer Corporation of Taiwan. The G1 will be the first phone to the market that will use the Android mobile device platform.[1][2] The phone is part of an open standards effort of the Open Handset Alliance.[3] It was released for pre-order through T-Mobile on September 23, 2008, and planned for availability in stores on October 22, 2008 in the US.[4][5][2] It is scheduled to be released in the UK on October 30, 2008, and the rest of Europe (at least in Germany, Netherlands and Czech Republic) in early 2009. It is priced starting at 9 for existing T-Mobile customers if purchased with a two-year T-Mobile voice and data plan, and 9 without a contract.[6] G1 comes in three colors brown, black and white. Android The G1 runs on the Android operating system. Most Android software developers write their applications in Java, but since Android does not directly run J2ME applications, they need to be compiled first to a unique non-Java bytecode before they can be executed on an Android powered phone. The home screen app provided on the G1 offers a desktop with shortcut icons similar to the one on Windows mobile devices, but gives the user three screens worth of space for storing more shortcuts than will fit on one screen. Dragging sideways across the home screen scrolls between the desktops. The G1 comes with ChromeLite a stripped down version of the Google Chrome
